NRA Basic Shotgun Course

When: Saturday July 20, 2019

Time: 9:00am – 6:00pm (Please arrive 15 minutes early)

Where: Androscoggin Valley Fish and Game Association Shooting Range

East Milan Road, Milan, NH 03588

Cost: $125.00 per participant ($30.00 non-refundable deposit due by May 1st)

Remaining balance must be paid in full by July 15, 2019

CLASS IS LIMITED TO 12 PARTICIPANTS. First 12 deposits received will guarantee spot. Ages 16 and older can participate however participants under 18 require a parent or legal guardian to be present during the class but they do not have to participate.

Materials Provided: Students need to bring:

-NRA Basics Shotgun Shooting Student Handbook - eye protection

-NRA Course Completion Certificate - ear protection

-Clay Pigeons for Live Fire - lunch and snacks for the day

-Shot Shell Ammunition (12&20 gauge) -pencil, pen, high lighter, notepad

-Shotgun (Students can bring their own if they have one) 

- appropriate range attire

-Bottled Water will be provided {no open toed shoes}

- folding chair (picnic tables are present)

-sunscreen/bug repellent


Please dress for the weather with proper range attire.

Brief Description

Basic Shotgun Shooting Course includes (note this is not a marksmanship course):

Safe gun handling skills.

Shot gun parts and operation.

Ammunition description and identification.

Fundamentals of shotgun shooting.

Live fire both static and moving.

Care and storage of shotguns.

Descriptions of other shotgun activities to pursue.

Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

Range pass applicants must go to our Rules and Regulations page to read them, be familiar with them and abide by them. Any violation of our rules and regulations may result in termination of your range pass. 

Range Pass Pricing:  

Single Adult Pass - $30

Combined Adult Boat / Range Pass - $50

Junior Range Pass for teens age 16 to 18 - $10

Child (under 16) - Free

Range Passes are valid from May 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019

 Foot Traffic only when the gate is closed for the winter

Pass holders may enter the Range to access and drive to the shooting tables with their firearms and related equipment from May 1, 2019 to Winter gate closing to enhance their shooting experience (The road is not maintained for winter use!!!) The shooting range is open from 9:00am until sunset. (no later than 8:30 pm. Please have respect for our neighbors) Shooting at night is not allowed. Only paper targets are allowed on the range. No exceptions!!!


     We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful facility to enjoy shooting sports and archery as well. The Range is utilized all summer long for our annual Trap and Archery leagues and general target shooting by our members. In September, the Range is a crucial part of AVF&GA's Hunter Education "Hands on ~ Field Day" portion of the Hunter Education program.

     The Range offers our members...Trapshooting, archery, a 50 yard, 100 yard Fixed Target Range, and a 25 yard Range ideal for handguns, 22 Plinking or initial Rifle Sighting-In.
